world's largest chocolate bunny

The wonderful tolling of children's' laughter could be heard Saturday at a accepted shopping center in Johannesburg, South Africa, where more than 250 poor kids gathered with local celebrities to help take apart and eat the world's largest chocolate bunny.

On most days, the children have few reasons to laugh. Many live in inauspicious conditions; some come from child-headed households with little food or time to play. But on Saturday they were just kids.

"It is truly amazing to see them act like children," said Portia Mongake from Abangani eNkosini, a local charity.

Last week, four specialized sculptors undertook the conscientious task of carving the bunny out of three solid tons of chocolate. Because of the brittle nature of chocolate, it was first melted down into blocks then placed one on top of the other to form the basic structure. When finished, the monolithic rabbit towered up to 3.82 meters high (12.5 feet).

The sculpture was built inside a plastic, temperature-controlled casing to prevent it from melting and to meet rigid health guidelines while on display.

"Chocolate is very difficult to work with," said Harry Johnson, a world-renowned sculptor who helped sculpt the bunny. "You can't carve it in one giant piece. When you cut into one corner, the other corner breaks off."

Johnson, known as one of the fastest sculptors in the world, said this was the first time he worked with chocolate.

"The first time I melted chocolate on the stove, I burned it," he laughed.

Tom Howard, with World Records Academy, confirmed the bunny has broken the world record for largest chocolate structure. The previous record was held by Brazil.

As for the kids, their smiles say it all.

"Eating this remarkable chocolate structure will stay with them for a long time," Rose Kubayi, from Banakekeleni Orphanage, said.

World’s shortest railway

The world’s shortest railway, Angels Flight, reopened in Los Angeles after being out of service for nine years. The first Angels Flight operated from 1901. The service was closed for redeveloping the location in 1969. It was reopened in 1996 and had to be closed again in 2001 after a fatal accident. The cost of a one-way ride is 24 cents.
People watch as the Angels Flight Railway resumes ferrying passengers up and down Bunker Hill in downtown Los Angeles Monday last. Angel's Flight, has been dubbed 'the shortest railway in the world,' and the train still features the original cars from 1901.

World's Fattest Woman

ALMOST every girl strives to have an hourglass figure but Donna Simpson is clearly an exception. Simpson, who is from New Jersey, tells Daily Mail that she aspires to be the fattest woman in the world. Three years ago, Simpson, weighing at 241kg, was hailed by Guinness World Record as the world's fattest mother, after she gave birth to her daughter Jacqueline. Looking at her now, one might think that she is again on her way of clinching that title.

Simpson, 42, currently weighs 273kg, but you would be wrong to think that she considers herself fleshy enough, for her ultimate goal is to hit 1000lb (450kg) within two years. "I'd love to be 1000lb ... it might be hard though, running after my daughter keeps my weight down."

Her methods of gaining more weight? Eat lots and lots of junk food. It's not really hard, considering that her favourite food included cakes and doughnuts.

For your information, Simpson would have to down 12,000 calories per day, in order to reach her goal. Apart from having a sweet tooth, Simpson has a weakness for sushi. Her highest record? Eating 70 pieces at one time. It is no wonder she has to fork out $815 (S$1138) every week shopping for food and grocery. Other than gulping down fattening snacks, Simpson stuck to another golden rule - try not to move as much as she can - to avoid burning off calories.

Now her drastic measures of getting meatier might spark off concerns and criticisms, but Simpson insisted that she is healthy.

If you think her loved ones had any issue with her becoming fatter day by day, meet her husband Philippe, whom she got to know on a dating site for plus-size people.

The 49-year-old is not as heavy as his wife - he weighs a healthy 68kg - but he is all for her in becoming the fattest woman on earth - according to Simpson, that is. "I think he'd like it if I was bigger ... he's a real belly man and completely supports me," she said. Even her way of making a living sounds in line with what she is aspiring to do - she runs a website where people pay to watch her eat or wash her huge body.

You just need to know where to place yourself.

Another common myth is that you can get to old to model. That's not true either. Which models do you think they use to target the 30-40 age group or the 40-50 or 50-60 age group???

30-40 year olds... 40-50 year olds... and 50-60 year olds!!!!

Each market has an age group and each age group needs models from that age group to model!
Myths like these have stopped so many people from even trying to become a model! You need to know what is the truth and how the modeling business really works!

Indian Railway Set's World Record :1000 coaches manufactured in 3 yrs

1000 railway coaches manufactured in the last three years and almost all of them set to run on the city’s railway tracks by the year end — the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) wants this success to be registered as a world record.

The corporation has approached the establishment of the Guinness Book of World Records to have this feat of 1000 new Siemens rakes registered as a world record in coach manufacturing. It has also given them a brief idea of the Siemens rakes being manufactured with the help of German technology at the Integral Coach Factory at Perambur. These coaches were introduced in 2007 as part of Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase I.

“Until now, railway coaches were not being made for any city on such a large scale and at such a short time. It is an achievement in itself,” said Managing Director of MRVC Pramod Chander Sehgal. “We are keen to have this project in the Book of Records and have informed them well in advance.”

Latest Handbag Fashion Trend World

Most women cannot leave the house without bringing a purse or a handbag with them. After all, carrying a purse along is a convenient way of lugging loose change, a cell phone, a compact, a comb, a lipstick, keys, a vial of perfume, reading material, and all the other stuff that women cannot leave home without. Toting a purse or a handbag saves women from having stuffed and bulky pockets, if they have pockets at all.

However, as convenient as a handbag is in helping us carry stuff around, what many women fail to realize is that a handbag or a purse is a fashion accessory. So, because it is a fashion accessory, it should work with the rest of the outfit.

But more importantly than that, when you choose a purse or a handbag to go with your outfit, you should pick one that should match the type of body that you have. You may not be aware of it, but when someone looks at you, the first thing about your outfit that this someone would be likely to notice is your handbag. Depending on what kind of handbag you are carrying, you may be drawing attention to the curves of your body that you may prefer to de-emphasize.

It is all about balance. Just like any piece of clothing or accessory that you have on you, your purse should make your figure appear balanced. It should hide what you may want to hide and emphasize what you may want to emphasize.

One of the principles that you should be following when picking out a purse to match your outfit is that large handbags go with amply padded bodies, while small purses go with smaller bodies. If you are a petite person, the type of purse that you should be using is small. If you wear plus sizes, you should go for bigger handbags. That is one of the basic principles that you should observe when choosing a handbag.

So, which type of purse should go with which type of curves? Going with the principle on size on choosing handbags, if you are short with only a slight figure, you should go for a handbag that is small and is something that you can hold close to your body. Never ever buy a big purse because you will drown in it. Holding a big purse if your body is small would make you look as if the purse is carrying you, and not the other way around.

If you are the tall and lanky type, with not much on you in terms of curves, your challenge is to create the illusion of having a curvy figure and to hide the straight leanness of your body. You can achieve this by wearing a purse that is medium-sized and with a long shoulder strap that will allow you to hold the purse close to your waist. Holding the purse against the waist will make you seem that you have a slender waist that gently slopes to your hips.

Now, if your hips are wide and heavy, the handbag you need is something that will draw the eyes away from your hips and lower body. The perfect handbag for you is something with a shoulder strap that will allow the handbag to hang just above your hips. In this way, anyone who looks at you will have his or her eyes drawn to your upper body, rather than to your hips.

Girls with top-heavy figures, on the other hand, would want to call attention away from their upper bodies. If your figure is top-heavy, the handbag that you need is something that has long straps, something that you can hold close to your hips. Remember to get a large purse to balance out your top-heavy body.

Never ever use a small handbag if you have a plus size figure. As we said above, toting a small purse will only call attention to your size. Always go for a wide handbag that will lend a balanced look to your figure.

If you have the perfect hourglass figure, with your bust line in proportion to your hips and with a definite waist, you are to be envied. You can lug along just about any type of purse or handbag there is. But then again, you should still be conscious about the way your purse balances out your figure. Always get a handbag that is just the right size compared to your body. So, if you are on the short and lean side, go for a small bag. If you are big and really curvy, a big bag will work for you.

Always remember that your purse or handbag is a fashion accessory. You should make it work to balance out your figure.

Largest Origami Mosaic in Hong Kong World Record

On 26 July 2008, an event entitled ‘origami stars, millions of hearts’ set a new Guinness World Record for the largest origami mosaic in Hong Kong, China. The event was organised by Hong Kong Youth Visual Art Association, Hong Kong Chinese Arts Festival, Lo Fung Art Gallery Ltd. and Hong Kong Union of Visual Artists Limited.
The event started at nine ‘o’ clock in the morning in Hiu Kwong Street Sports Centre, Kwun Tong, Hong Kong ,China. Around 2,000 participants took turns to take part in the relay of making the mosaic which took 9 hours. The participants were mainly students and teachers from Hong Kong, China, but some participants had come from other countries to be part of the record. They made origami stars and pasted them onto the paper on the floor to form a mosaic.
In order to make the event successful, the organisers had trained 150 volunteers, who trained the school children at making origami stars for two weeks prior to the event. Altogether there were over 100,000 origami stars used to form the mosaic. The mosaic was based on a picture drawn by a student in Hong Kong. It depicted Chinese people’s welcome to the coming Beijing 2008 Olympics and the best wishes for its success. The five pandas in five colors on the mosaic stood for goodwill ambassadors to show welcome to the foreign friends who will visit Beijing from all over the world.
Guinness World records adjudicator Angela Wu witnessed the whole event, who measured the size of the mosaic along with a professional surveyor from Hong Kong. The mosaic was 25.01 m (82.05 ft) long and 12.83 m (42.09 ft) wide, almost as big as a standard basketball court, the total area of the mosaic was 320.87 m² (3,453 ft²) beating the previous record of 231.8 m² (2,496 ft²). When Angela announced the new record, everyone present was very happy. The participants said that they were very glad that they could take part in the event and everyone was taking pictures as memories of this happy weekend.

Worlds Most Inclined Tower : Capital Gate

As construction of Capital Gate continues in the UAE capital city, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), which is developing the iconic building, and RMJM, project architects, have submitted a joint application to the Guinness Book of Records to recognise the tower as the "most inclined in the world".

Capital Gate leans westward an astonishing 18 degrees; by comparison the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans less than 4 degrees. Because of its unique posture, the tower is being constructed on top of an incredibly dense mesh of reinforced steel. The dense mesh sits above an intensive distribution of 490 piles which have been drilled 30 metres underground to accommodate the gravitational, wind and seismic pressures caused by the lean of the building.

Simon Horgan CEO of ADNEC Group said, "Capital Gate will be a building that the world will talk about, not because it has surpassed another building as the world's tallest, but because of its aesthetic splendour and technical achievement."

"Capital Gate will be one of a kind," added David Pringle, CEO, RMJM Asia and the Middle East. "Its graceful, asymmetric diagonal structure, known as a 'diagrid', supports the tilting external load of the building and we believe that this is the first building in the world to use a pre-cambered core."

Besides being believed to be the 'world's most inclined' building, Capital Gate also features 728 unique custom-made diamond-shaped glazing panels. Due to the structure's curving shape, each pane of glass is different and each will be fitted at a slightly different angle.

Capital Gate will accommodate the 5-star 'Hyatt at Capital Centre' hotel and will provide the most exclusive office space in Abu Dhabi. The tower forms a major part of the Capital Centre development, an AED8 billion (US$2.2 billion) business and residential micro city being constructed around the thriving Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

World's Largest Acrylic Panel : Dubai Mall

Dubai Aquarium & Discovery Centre Sets Guinness Record for 'World's Largest Acrylic Panel' at The Dubai Mall. Dubai Aquarium ; Discovery Centre in The Dubai Mall, which opens on November 4, 2008, has clinched the Guinness World Record for the 'World's Largest Acrylic Panel'

Measuring 32.88 metres wide x 8.3 metres high x 750 mm thick and weighing 245,614 kg, the viewing panel at Dubai Aquarium surpasses the current Guinness World Record holder, Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa, Japan, at 22.5 metres wide x 8.2 metres high and 600 mm thick.

The Dubai Aquarium viewing panel dimensions were set at the limit of production abilities by major acrylic manufacturers when it was commissioned. Thus, its Guinness World Record is set to stay until industry-approved manufacturing capabilities are redrawn to enable the production of bigger panels.

At 750 mm thick, the acrylic viewing panel is built to withstand the enormous pressure of 10 million litres of water used in the aquarium, but transparent to give visitors clear views of the 33,000 plus marine animals on display.

Mr Yousif Al Ali, General Manager, The Dubai Mall said: "With this achievement, we are highlighting the capabilities of Emaar and Dubai to undertake and execute projects of global significance."

Mr John Pilley, Adjudicator, Guinness World Records said: "The Dubai Mall joins Dubai's illustrious list of World Records with the 'Largest Acrylic Panel', once again reiterating the can-do attitude of Dubai. This exemplifies the dedication and passion that make some of our best records."

Italian Swimmer set World Longest Swimming Record

IT IS a trial of endurance that pits the lone swimmer against the forces of nature. Now, the discipline of marathon swimming has a new hero, after an Italian man swam for more than 100km (62 miles) in 24 hours.

Mauro Giaconia, 37, won a place in Guinness World Records for the longest swim in a lagoon after he covered 101km in a marathon endurance test in the vast sea-water swimming pool of a South American hotel.

The swimmer described yesterday how his tongue grew numb after hours of pushing through salt water. He expects to lose his sense of taste for up to two months – "but that usually happens with sea water," he said.

Mr Giaconia struggled to keep swimming on course in the pool, which is itself a record holder – it is the world's largest at 1,013m (3,324ft) long. It covers an area of 20 acres and reaches as deep as 35m.

Lifeguards switched on the lights at night, but he eventually opted to swim in the dark. "I kept going with a lot of enthusiasm to do the task," he said.

He describes himself on his website as a sportsman who "likes extreme and challenging sports, even if they mean hours of solitude". He was recently voted sportsman of the year in Palermo, Sicily.

He was only 14 years old when he began long-distance swimming in Palermo. After briefly "flirting" with kite surfing, boxing and cycling, he returned to his real passion of swimming and has spent the past eight years setting endurance records.

He has swum marathons over 12 and 24 hours in both swimming pools and the open sea, from the gulf of Palermo to the Strait of Gibraltar.

He warmed up for the record in San Alfonso del Mar, on the west coast of Chile, 80km from the capital, Santiago, by swimming three 24-hour races in Austria, Italy and the United States.

In 2005, a group of 20 Finnish swimmers broke a world record for 24-hour swimming that had stood for 23 years. In a relay, they logged 184,994 metres during a 24-hour period, breaking the former record of 182,807m by a group from New Zealand.

The team swimmers were not quite up to Mr Giaconia's feat of endurance. They swum on average 9,250m per swimmer, but there was no exact information on how much water each individual swimmer covered.

MARATHON swimming is an endurance sport defined by the International Swimming Federation to be a swim of least 10km in length, and swimmers cannot use wet suits.

While a 10km open water race was added to the Olympic medal stakes in the 2008 Beijing games, record-breaking swimmers pursue longer records in tougher conditions.

On 25 August, 1875, Captain Matthew Webb became the first person to swim the English Channel without the use of artificial aids. He swam from Dover to Calais in less than 22 hours, smeared in porpoise oil, covering a zig-zag course across the Channel measured at over 39 miles (64 km) long. Modern swimmers have cut the crossing distance to about 21 miles (32km).

In 1987 the American swimmer Lynne Cox famously swam across the Bering Strait between the US and the USSR, approximately 50 miles.

Guinness World Record for sitting on 40,040 seats in 48 hours

Terry Twining, who is a member of the Adjutant General's Corps and has been in the Army for 18 years, averaged one seat every four seconds at Belgium's King Baudouin national football stadium, raising more than £4,000 for charity.

Sergeant Twining, who lives with his family in Gosport, Hants, completed the challenge just weeks after a triple hernia operation and beat the previous record by 790.

He said: "It's brilliant that I've broken the record but my legs are killing me.

"It was hard work but such a relief when it was finally over, and the money is going to a great cause, which is very close to my heart.

"I knew that sitting in all those seats would be an extreme challenge - that's why I decided to do it and I'm just overjoyed that I managed it."

The previous record of 39,250 seats was set at the Rose Bowl stadium in California, USA, in 2007.

To get in shape for the challenge, he sat in all 9,205 seats of RAEC Mons football stadium in Mons, Belgium, in five hours and 30 minutes last August - an average one seat every two seconds.

He raised funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care after his grandfather died of lung cancer and his mother was diagnosed with cancer last Easter.

He has previously run 21 marathons in 21 days, completed 24 hours on a treadmill and done a 24-hour combat fitness test.

This takes his fundraising total from his challenges over recent years to more than £50,000, which has all been donated to good causes.
