1000 railway coaches manufactured in the last three years and almost all of them set to run on the city’s railway tracks by the year end — the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) wants this success to be registered as a world record.
The corporation has approached the establishment of the Guinness Book of World Records to have this feat of 1000 new Siemens rakes registered as a world record in coach manufacturing. It has also given them a brief idea of the Siemens rakes being manufactured with the help of German technology at the Integral Coach Factory at Perambur. These coaches were introduced in 2007 as part of Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase I.
“Until now, railway coaches were not being made for any city on such a large scale and at such a short time. It is an achievement in itself,” said Managing Director of MRVC Pramod Chander Sehgal. “We are keen to have this project in the Book of Records and have informed them well in advance.”
