Facebook has been in ongoing dialogue with Greenpeace, the environmental group meeting with the later on Tuesday in San Francisco, and asked last week to help promote the Open Compute project.
"We continue to find this kind of dedication and valuable look forward (to) work with Greenpeace and others to address important environmental issues, including energy efficiency and renewables," said Facebook.
Facebook has become accustomed to the environmental impact of factoring and design decisions, including his upcoming move to a former Sun Microsystems campus in northern California city of Menlo Park.
"Their performance is great," Kessler said. "But it is not enough."
"They should be concerned with coal, he said." If we keep burning coal, we will not stop climate change. "
Trend of music, video, email, social networks and hosted services that are offered on the "cloud" of the web on Facebook, Apple, Google, Amazon and other technology companies are investing huge data centers.
"What we see is cloud, and that takes a lot of power," said Kessler.

The hotel industry here is set a new Guinness World Record on Saturday, will spend 38.2 meters long, Dosa, the longest ever made.
The world record feat was performed in the presence of Guinness Book of World Records adjudicator Elizabeth Smith on the sprawling base Siddhartha College of Arts and Science College in occasion of the golden jubilee of the Association of Vijayawada Hotel Owners .
The hotel surpassed the previous record by more dosa, which was 32.5 meters long and was made by Sankalp Restaurant in Ahmedabad in August 2009.
The audience curiosity 'and forecasting has attracted so Dosa batter was poured into buckets tawa. agree on the time, all samples Dosa pour the mixture, spread it on your own, then joined one of the neighbors.
Given that there may be a unique record attempt, and a perfect dosa was necessary to meet the criteria, tensions were high. Rolling, the hardest part had to do without damaging the dosa or discoloration.
When the brown crispy Dosa was clear, Ms. Smith had it measured and announced, amid cheers, the South Indian delicacy measured 38.2 meters long. She presented a Guinness Book of World Records certificate to representatives of the association.
Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay broke the coconut is a 55-foot Tava before the final act began. Vigorous exercise carried out by "Dosa samples" from the hotels in town a week before the record-breaking feat, under the guidance of chefs and members of the Association of Hoteliers'.
Most everybody knows what it's like to wash dishes after a meal. And almost everyone has experienced what it's like trying to cram that one extra plate into the dishwasher or balancing that one last glass in the drying rack.
But if you had more than 2 miles (3.22 km) of open beach in which to line up your dishes to dry, those problems wouldn't exist. And that's exactly what Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (India) had at its disposal when I travelled to Chennai, India, on 6 April 2011 to watch the organization use its Vim brand dishwashing liquid to help wash and assemble the longest line of washed plates -- an incredible record total of 15,295.
The photo above shows the finish line, but the sheer number of plates lined up was incredible and truly unable to be captured in one frame. Guidelines required that each plate have a diameter of at least 25 cm (9.8 in) and the plates used by Hindustan measured 26.5 cm (10.4 in). When laid next to each other, the record line of plates measured more than 3.8 km (2.36 mi) up the Chennai shoreline on the Bay of Bengal.
To be eligible for the record, the plates not only had to be lined up in a row, but needed to first be used to serve a hot meal and then washed. The meal of choice was a toor dal dish, using rice, onion, tomato, jeera, garlic, turmeric, chili powder, oil, salt and green coriander, which was prepared and served as a donation to approximately 1,700 people at a local food bank.
Then, 145 dishwashers got to work, needing more than 5 hours to clean the thousands of plates using the Vim brand detergent.
Considering temperatures reached upwards of 36 degrees Celsius (97 Fahrenheit) all week in Chennai, the washing and lining up of plates under the sweltering sun was no easy task. This was made particularly true by the group not only hoping to break the previous mark, but smash it: the 15,295 plates crushed the nearly year-old record of 10,488 plates set in Thailand in May 2010.
But in the end, the ultimate prize was achieved as Hindustan Unilever took home its very own Guinness World Record.
When I arrived at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, USA, on the morning of April 10th, the cold weather and threatening rain clouds made it seem that this might not be the ideal day for an outdoor record attempt. However, I must have underestimated NMU and Marquette’s enthusiasm for skateboarding, because participants began to arrive in droves in the hours leading up to the parade.
The festivities leading up to the attempt included a “dance” contest for longboarders. This very difficult skill involves performing graceful balancing tricks that appear much like dancing while riding the longboard downhill. Staying on the board is a huge challenge, but the successful “dance” moves were incredibly impressive!
Finally the time came for the parade, and as everyone made their way to the start, the crowd seemed to multiply as they assembled. The excitement built even more as participants made a skateboard gateway for others to pass through as they entered the parade route. Skateboard enthusiasts young and old then made their way along the route, which rounded a courtyard and a parking lot before culminating on a long, downhill stretch.
After everyone enthusiastically completed the route, it was my pleasure to announce that a new Guinness World Record had been set, with 341 participants in a skateboard parade!
A colourful collection of 50 craft journeyed over the Dover Strait, one of the world’s busiest waterways, in about four hours.
The last ones made it from Lydden in Kent to Calais at about 11am for a champagne reception.
‘I’m absolutely elated we have done it,’ said organiser Ian Sharpe, 51, of Caterham in Surrey.
‘It’s the culmination of 14 months of hard work that has paid off.’
Fellow balloonist Paul Komuro said: ‘It was an exhilarating experience.’
The trip was the first Guinness World Records attempt for the largest group of hot air balloons to make the Channel crossing. The flight is now being assessed by records experts.
On Friday, April 1, I travelled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a record attempt for the largest paint swatch. The swatch, created by PPG Pittsburgh Paints, had to surpass a minimum requirement of 6 square meters (approximately 65 square feet) in order to set a new world record.
A paint swatch (a.k.a. paint chip) is a rectangular card with several different shades of paint on it that aids in selecting the perfect shade for your walls. Although helpful, paint swatches don't always provide the accuracy that one would hope (I'm thinking of one somewhat traumatic experience in particular, where the paint swatch promised that my kitchen would be a light, airy shade of canteloupe and the actual paint dried into a horribly violent marigold color).
Experiences like this are what prompted the idea of creating the world's largest paint swatch. Color interplays with many different factors, and your eye registers the exact same shade in different ways depending on the size of the object and its surroundings. Indeed, when I held up the normal-sized paint swatch to the oversized paint swatch (which was 24 times the regular size), the two shades did appear to be somewhat different even though they were the exact same hue. It was an interesting optical illusion.
Holding the regular sized swatch against the record-setting swatch
PPG very cleverly decided that in order for consumers to make informed decisions, the colors needed to be displayed in the same way that you would see them on your wall - namely, big. In addition to the paint swatch, PPG had a large portable wall on display, which will be displayed in PPG Place in Pittsburgh and will be painted with a different color every few days. PPG also gave away free paint samples which could be used to paint a 4 x 4 section of a wall - basically, a test drive for a paint color.
After I learned about the concept and the background of the attempt, the only thing left to do was to measure the swatch to confirm that it surpassed the required area. At 17 feet x 4 feet, the total area came out to 68 square feet - a new Guinness World Records achievement!
Dee Schlotter, national color brand manager for PPG Pittsburgh Paints, along with Charles E. Bunch, PPG Industries chairman and CEO
A big congratulations goes out to everyone involved in the project. Here's to a new - and colorful - world record!
PPG Pittsburgh Paints employees gather in front of a large 'living wall', which will be painted a different color every few days in order to demonstrate how various shades will look on an actual wall.
On 26th December 2010 I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Hyderabad, India to adjudicate the largest Kuchipudi dance. Kuchipudi is one of the oldest forms of classical South Indian dance, filled with colour, grace and spectacular movements and is normally performed by those dressed in traditional south Indian dress. I was so overwhelmed by the grandeur and detail that adorned each and every dancer. It truly was a spectacular sight to witness a sea of young dancers who were all so well versed in the dance come together and celebrate their culture and heritage.
After many days of dress and dance rehearsals, children from all over Hyderabad had turned up to represent their culture and perform to an audience of both the Chief Minister of Hyderabad state and President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
As each child was ushered into the Gachibowli Stadium by their proud parents, the anticipation was inevitably growing stronger. Like many mass participation records, it was of immense concern that each child who had signed up to register in the morning was present and participating during the day. Each group of 50 children had a group leader assigned to them and were being observed to make sure they were not only well versed in the Kuchipudi dance, but looked and danced exactly like the person to either side of them.
To organise and execute a mass participation record such as this required great passion, skill and diligence and a massive congratulations must be given to Silicon Andhra for organising this spectacular feat for the second time and for beating their very own record.
By the end of the show, there were in total 2, 850 dancers who all simultaneously performed the same Kuchipudi dance. The magnitude and quality of the performance ensured it was an unforgettable record.
Congratulations to all the participants and to Silicon Andhra for yet another successful Guinness World Records achievement!
The Guardian today set up a 'Royal Wedding Live' blog in attempt to show 'full throated support' for the British Monarchy.
The tongue-in-cheek feature launched at 7:30 this morning and has vowed to give 'committed, unrivalled coverage' of the preparations for this year's big Royal wedding. At 10:11AM news of the wedding cancellation hit the site.
At 11.38, however, the updates were apparently forced to stop after they received "a communication from Buckingham Palace suggesting that some of the contents of [the] blog could contravene the Treason Felony Act of 1848."
Groupon “buy” April Fool's Day
Groupon, the vouchers website, claims to have purchased the April Fool's Day intellectual trademark, and giving it the official new title of Groupon Presents April Fools’ Day™.
Explaining its actions, Groupon say it "gives consumers more choices and better options" and that "You'll never again be confused by other corporations' April 1 pranks, since Groupon will be taking friendly, but swift, but hostile, legal actions against any nonlicensed April Fools' Day™ joke."
You can also see the Cease and Desist letters it has served to YouTube and others that are performing 'illegal pranks'.

YouTube's "centenary"
To see exactly what it was that YouTube did to anger groupon's legal department you merely need to go to their homepage.
With the logo changed to infer that the website was founded in 1911, users are given the choice to change the look of videos to make them silent and sepia-toned.
A collection of spoof videos from that year that mimic popular viral videos of today was also posted
In case people are fooled by this, Groupon helpfully point out, "nearly all technology necessary for Youtube.com or any other video website to function including the Internet, computers, speakers, and video sharing software were invented far after the purported advent of Youtube.com"
Gmail Motion
Google have found a way of combining your webcam and Gmail to dispense with outdated technology such as a keyboard and a mouse. By standing a safe distance from your computer, you will be able to issue commands by using different body shapes.
With a helpful motion guide, Google say that "movements are designed to be simple and intuitive for people of all skill levels". Leaning to your left will go to your inbox, while bringing your right arm up to your head with a closed fist will reply to the email.
Unfortunately, if you click to try Gmail motion, you get the message, "Gmail Motion doesn't actually exist. At least not yet... "
Virgin buys Pluto
Sir Richard Branson today released information about Virgin's latest tourism-based business venture. Virgin news announced that the company has bought Pluto and will attempt to have it reinstated as a planet.
Sir Richard said: "Virgin has expanded into many territories over the years, but we have never had our own planet before. This could pave the way for a new age in space tourism."
The company have even created a special vehicle - due to be launched this time next year - which they hope will be capable of 're-structuring' Pluto by leaching on to asteroids and 'bulking up' the planet in order to reach the required planetary mass.

News of the product hit IKEA Australia’s facebook page, complete with a link to a Youtube video where an IKEA designer discusses the safety features of the 'aesthetically pleasing' chair.
Zimmer skateboard
British company ‘Micro Scooters’ announced their latest product to be the ‘Micro Zimmer’. This zimmer-frame-meets-skateboard is purposely built for adrenaline-seeking pensioners. The Micro scooter can allegedly reach speeds of up to 10MPH and is capable of preforming basic skating stunts such as the ‘bunny hop’ and ‘ollies’.
Designers took the needs of their target audience very seriously by building in useful features such as ‘a loud horn’, ‘glasses holders’ and ‘shopping bags’.
Butterfly Attacks
Qualcomm, an American wireless telecommunications research and development company, is behind viral Internet videos which surfaced this week appearing to show incidents of severe butterfly attacks in various locations across the USA.
The videos confront witty reports that their own prototype of Mirasol display is responsible for triggering aggression from the insects.
BMW Royal Wedding M3
In acknowledgement of the upcoming royal wedding, BMW have announced a special Royal Edition of the BMW M3 Coupe which will apparently be available at BMW dealerships throughout the country from today and for one month only.
The special edition motor is available in three colours - Regal Red, Bridal White and Imperial Blue. This clever little prank is quite easy to fall for after seeing some of the quirky Royal Wedding memorabilia which has surfaced in the run up to the April event.
As can be seen in the press release, the classic M3 logo has been turned upside-down to read "Will"
Anyone interested in the car was asked to contact BMW via email at pauline.yorlegg@bmw.co.uk....
