World's Largest Caves Discovered in Vietnam

A cave discovered in Vietnam's Quang Binh province may be the largest in the world, a team of British explorers says.

British Cave Research Association explorer Howard Limbert, whose team confirmed the cave's existence, said the possible record-setting cavern is 656 feet high, 492 feet wide and at least 4 miles long, the Vietnam News Service said Friday. The explorer said strong currents and flooding prevented his team from thoroughly exploring the cave.

Previously, the largest known cavern was Deer Cave in Malaysia. The Malaysian cave is 328 feet high, 295 feet wide and 1 mile long, the Saigon Giai Phong newspaper said.

Limbert's team explored the cave in Vietnam's Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in mid-April before confirming its existence and size to the provincial People's Committee on Wednesday.

The Vietnam News Service said Limbert's team was the first group to explore parts of the cave, but an unidentified local resident is credited with its initial discovery 18 years ago.

Limbert said his team would return to Vietnam with more advanced equipment in 2011 to explore further.

Worlds Longest One Wire Telphone Network Record set by Ba Na telpher

VietNamNet Bridge – The Guinness World Records will present the world record certificates to the Ba Na – Suoi Mo telpher system in the central city of Da Nang on March 25, the inauguration day of the system.

According to Ba Na Hills Company, the operator of the telpher system, the Guinness World Records organization has recognized two world records related to the Ba Na – Suoi Mo telpher system: The world’s longest one-wire telpher network in the world (5,042.62m) and the telpher with the highest gap between the lowest and the highest stations (1,291.81m).

This telpher also holds the record for the largest departure station in Southeast Asia, which has entertainment facilities, a showroom of photos and objects about Ba Na’s past and present. At the last station, visitors can see one of the largest sitting Buddha statue in Asia, which is 27m high, in the Linh Ung pagoda.

With a total investment capital of VND300 billion, the Ba Na telpher has 24 pillars, 94 cabins, and can serve 1,500 visitors per hour. It takes only15 minutes for visitors to go from the foot of Ba Na Mountain to the Ba Na ecological tourism site, at 1,487m above sea level. This tourist site experiences four seasons within one day, and has an abundant fauna and floral system.

It is expected that Ba Na will welcome approximately 1 million visitors a year, compared to 200,000 in the past, when the telpher was not built.

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam Guinness Books Center, or Vietkings, last Thursday awarded a Guinness record certificate to Dong A Bank for having the country’s first mobile ATM system.

The bank owns 1,200 ATMs throughout the country with 2.5 million customers using multi-purpose ATM cards.

Dong A Bank is expected to launch another 20 mobile ATM trucks.

Samsung INNOV8 Mobile Phone Guinness World Record

Samsung INNOV8 or i8510, which comes with 8MP camera has become a part of an amazing Guinness Vietnam Record with Vietnam local photographer, Hoang Trung Thuy. Together they have succeed to capture and print “the biggest photo captured ever by a mobile phone”. The photo itself has been printed on 86 x 115 cm paper and showed off at the Samsung INNOV8 launch event in Vietnam.

CNet Asia’s representatives, which attended that event, even dare to say that the image quality of INNOV8 is comparable to that from a semi-professional photographer. However, they also added that it would even better if Samsung enhance its INNOV8 camera quality so that it can reach a better result than this.

8MP Mobile Carnival
Aside from this Guinness Record creation, I’ve also found something interesting here; the 8MP camera mobile phone carnival is just about to come. The first 8MP camera that has been officially launched in this year is C905 series from Sony Ericsson. Later, Samsung respond its Japanese-Sweden rival by unveiling its INNOV8 not long after that. And of course, yesterday I’ve just published a preview on LG’s 8MP camera, KC910 series.

Actually, other manufacturer like Motorola has also been rumored to launch its own 8MP camera. The giant Motorola itself has a leaked image in blogosphere on its 8MP series, Moto Alexander! BGR got its images on August 5th this year.
