Butterbean Festival goes for place in Guinness World Records

Alabama Butterbean Festival officials are unveiling a 4-foot tall, 7-foot wide, 1,000-pound metal pot on Friday as part of their plan for the annual festival to be in "Guinness World Records."

The unveiling will be at noon at Bradford & Hines Custom Metal Fabrication, 3200 Sixth Ave. North, Birmingham.

Festival officials are attempting to earn a place in Guinness for the largest pot of baked beans.

Bradford & Hines built the pot using stainless steel plates provided by another Birmingham company, Phoenix Metals Co. The pot can hold 1,200 gallons, which exceeds the current 832-gallon record, Guinness officials said.

The 2010 Alabama Butterbean Festival will be Sept. 4 in Pinson.
