Indian Guitarist Music Marathon set Guinness World Record

Sebastian Joseph, a Thrissur-based guitarist, started a music marathon on Thursday in a bid to set a Guinness world record.

Mr. Joseph plans to play the guitar for 60 hours at a stretch to break the existing record of 48 hours created by an American.

The rules of the Guinness allow a 15-minute break every 8 hours. Mayor R. Bindu flagged off the guitar ‘yagnam’ at the Regional Theatre. The session was started with the popular Malayalam song ‘Keranirakaladum….’. Students of Nandanam Dance and Music Centre performed to the tunes of Sebastian.

Melodious old Malayalam songs flowed non-stop from Sebastian’s guitar accompanied by orchestra.

The audience applauded gently whenever he stopped to start the next song. During the next two days, he will play on his guitar 700 songs.

Mr. Sebastian, an All India Radio grade guitarist, is one of the leading musicians in Kerala. He has worked with famous singers such as K.J. Yesudas, M.G. Sreekumar and P. Jayachandran. He has been running Grand Music Academy for the last 13 years and has done many solo guitar performances on national and international stages.

The programme sponsored by Worldwide Corporation, Thrissur, will include a ‘music-dance dialogue’.

Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattom and Theyyam performers will dance to music played by the guitaristThe ‘yagnam’ will be concluded on Saturday evening with a flute recital by Doordharsan director Raghavan.

Chanel - World Oldest Dog Celebrate his 20th Birthday

Meet Chanel the world’s oldest dog. Chanel is 20 years old and was named the oldest dog by Guinness World Records last year, and is capturing the heart of many after her appearance on the Today Show this morning. Read more and check out photos and video here.

Chanel is the world’s oldest dog and a celebrity in her own right. She was born in 1988 and will soon be celebrating her 21’s birthday. In dog years that makes her about 147. Her once red hair has turned white, and she needs special doggie glasses for her cataracts. She eats a special diet of boiled chicken, whole wheat pasta, and a special doggie treat for her teeth. She still goes on walks during the summer with her owner’s Karl and Denise Shaughnessy, but is carried for most of the way. Long gone are the days where she used to run three miles to keep her figure.

Chanel was adopted from a Virginia shelter as a 6-week-old pup. Denise only paid $25 for her and has since been rewarded with priceless, unconditional love.

While Chanel is the world’s oldest dog at the age of 20 she is still moving about and living an extraordinary life for a doggie her age.

Norfolk man's 68-pound catch sets world record

A 68-pound snowy grouper caught by Norfolk's Jere Humphries has been certified as the International Game Fish Association all-tackle world record.

The huge bottom dweller was caught in August from deep waters near the Norfolk Canyon. Humphries was fishing on the Bone Daddy with Capt. Jimmy Collier.

"This definitely is my most memorable fish," said Humphries, a 51-year-old dental laboratory technician. Humphries said the grouper fight took about 30 minutes.

"When that fish hit, I could not move it," he said. "Finally, a couple of cranks got him off the bottom and the fight was on.

"It was one intense pull and fight, and I was totally exhausted when I got it in the boat. "
Humphries' fish eclipsed the previous world record of 66 pounds, caught in December 2007 by Hampton's Chris Boyce.

Worlds Biggest Cork Mosaic Guinness World Records

Albanian artist Saimir Strati glued 229,764 corks of various shapes and colours over a plastic banner measuring 12.94 metres by 7.1 metres to show "Romeo with a crown of grapes playing the guitar while dancing with the sea and the sun".

He worked 14 hours of work a day for 28 days and completed his project.

"It gives me a personal pleasure to declare that Mr. Saimir Strati has set today the new Guinness world record for the largest cork mosaic," Guinness adjudicator Carlos Martinez said.
Albanians have been following Strati's third world record attempt much more closely than his previous two record-breaking pieces of art, a portrait with nails of Leonardo Da Vinci and a galloping horse made with toothpicks.

"I love mosaics, they are a dying genre. I follow the same technique used 3,000 years ago," said Strati. "A mosaic requires you to work for a long time and keep the emotion alive."

"I also wanted to appeal to Mediterranean countries not to create mosaics based on computer pixels, but as our forefathers did. The Mediterranean is the home of the mosaic."

His 25-year-old mosaic collection features one created with fragments of egg shells and a portrait of Elvis Presley, made with compact discs.

The artist did his latest work in a local hotel, where he told visitors: "Drink, because I need the corks."

Lowest Fuel Consumption on a Trip around the U.S World Record

Husband and wife team John and Helen Taylor struck out from Chantilly, Virginia today on a 23-day, 8000 mile loop around the 48 contiguous states in an attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the lowest fuel consumption on a trip around the U.S. The current record stands at 51.8 mpg.

Breaking fuel mileage records is nothing new for the Taylors. The Australian couple has been setting and breaking records around the world for 26 years. They hold 36 world records and have made records in South Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America and their native Australia. In 2006, they set a world record driving around the globe in a Volkswagen Golf on only 24 tanks of gas.

This time, their weapon of choice is a brand new 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. The EPA rates the first 50-state-legal clean diesel at 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, though third-party tester AMCI was able to do 38 mpg city and 44 mpg highway. The Taylors are confident that their years of experience in frugal driving will help them squeeze a few extra miles out of each gallon and take home the record.

"It will be a great challenge and adventure to drive through the 48 U.S. mainland states," Helen said. "We want to educate the American public that by choosing the right car, using the right fuel and adopting fuel-saving driving techniques, everyone in the U.S. can save money, fuel and reduce carbon emissions."

The journey will take them in a counter-clockwise circle around the U.S., and they'll be required to stop at least 12 times for refueling and official check-ins. The couple left Virginia today and will stop in Vermont, Ohio, Iowa, South Dakota, Montana, Nevada, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Illinois, Louisiana and end in West Virginia on September 26.

World Record Common Carp set by Emir Caro

Guinness World record for carp - Emir Caro is a well respected German carp angler who has a amazing track record of huge carp. Emir has been targeting this fish for the past three years from a very difficult water - It sets a new world record for a common carp at 38.45 kg (84lb 12oz).

He tempted it on a 20mm boilie, Mako super fly hook size 3, 18lb Krystonite with a 65lb Score Gold lead core leader.

The fish was weighed, witnessed and photographed and then returned to the water very quickly after capture.

Emir thought the fish was close to spawning and made sure the fish was on the bank for as little time as possible.

This fish was wrongly reported as being found dead.

The fish found dead was the Rainbow Fishery World Record mirror carp recently caught by Graham Slaughter that died shortly after its capture.

World Record Balloon Sculpture

November 8, 2007, is Guiness World Record Day, and Carmen Tellez of CharmandHappy.com in Pico Rivera, CA flew to Cincinnati, Ohio to participate among 60 of Steve Jones' closest friends and associates from around the world are celebrating the day by attempting to create the world's largest balloon sculpture!

Steven Jones of Aeration Decorations, based in Cincinnati, leads an international team of balloon designers with the 4th annual BalloonTown USA event. The event is at Cincinnati Mills Mall in the old Media Play building. Artists are attending from throughout the United States, Europe and Israel.

Over 150,000 balloons will be used to break the existing record set in 2003 by an Italian team of balloon designers. Their sculpture used just over 59,000 balloons, so the Cincinnati effort should easily surpass the record.

The event was open to the public. The event is also a charity fund raiser. Proceeds from the project will be donated to St. Rita School for the Deaf and the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati.

A press conference took place at BalloonTown USA on Thursday, November 8th at 10:00 AM. At that time, there was an official ribbon cutting ceremony and guided tour through the completed sculpture.
