Limca Record of Memorising and Recalling 407 Random Objects

Jolly Dintis has created the national record by memorising and recalling 407 random objects serially, randomly and in reverse order, an official release issued here said.

She required two hours, ten minutes and 36 seconds to memorise all 407 objects randomly called out to her when blind-folded and recalled all the objects accurately in 24 minutes and 32 seconds in second attempt, on July 29, 2007, the release said.

During serial recall (in descending order), she missed eight objects out of 407 random objects which were recalled correctly in 35 minutes, 55 seconds.

During reverse recall (in ascending order), Dintis recalled 403 objects in 39 minutes and 53 seconds, missing only four objects, the release stated.

Later, the audience asked random serial numbers of objects and vice versa. Around 47 objects or serial number were asked, all of them were recalled with cent per cent accuracy.

The previous record was held by Srikrishna Teja Gaajula of Hyderabad for memorising 333 random object on June 11, 2006 which was broken by Pavan Kumar Shrivastava of Jaunpur (UP) for memorising and recalling 400 random objects on June 5, 2007.

Limca book editor Vijaya Ghosh has thus issued the national record certificate.

Six observers including two journalists were present during the attempt, release added.

13 Year Old Indian Boy win 2008 Scripps National Spelling Bee

13 year old Indian origin Sameer Mishra from Indiana is the winner of the 2008 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Beating 288 children in the 8-15 age group, Sameer finally managed to win the highly sought after contest in his fourth attempt. Sameer finished 98th in 2005, 14th in 2006 and 16th in 2007. “I told my mom I was going to do the bee,” Sameer told the press. “And if I was going to do it, I was going to win it one day. And I guess it happened.”

Sameer kept entertaining the audience with his smart comments from time to time. Finally when he lifted the trophy, he declared ““I’m really, really weak.” Sameer was mentored and coached by his sister Shruti who has already participated thrice in the spelling bee competition. The winner gets $35,000 in cash and a few thousand dollars in other prizes. A close second to Sameer was fellow Indian origin spelling genius 12-year-old Sidharth Chand, a seventh grade student.

The final word Sameer Mishra had to spell the word “guerdon” which he did correctly. The word means “something that one has earned or gained” and truly Sameer earned him the 81st version of the prestigious spelling bee competition. Congratulations to Sameer and Sidharth for doing all of us proud.

Coca-Cola Felicitates Indian Olympians At The Launch Of Limca Book Of Records, 2008

Coca-Cola India & FICCI felicitated the Indian Olympians at the launch of 2008 edition of Limca Book of Records. Atul Singh, President & CEO, Coca-Cola India and Dr Amit Mitra presented the citations, shawl & badge to the Olympians - Tennis Sensation Leander Paes, versatile hurdles dynamo G S Randhawa, winter Olympics winner Shiva Keshavan (Luge) and special Olympics gold medalist Rushi Gulati (Cycling).

The 19th edition also witnessed the launch of the book for the first time in Hindi language, with an objective to reach out maximum number of people all over India. A special section on Indian Olympians has been added in the latest edition to catalogue & pay tribute to the Indian achievers in the Olympics.

The youngest Olympian honored was a the 14 year child prodigy, Rushi Gulati, gold medalist in cycling at Special Olympics who received a standing ovation by the gathering for exemplifying the courage, hard work & dedication to fulfill her dreams.

200 coconut breaking in 3.16 minutes records india

To set a new record, Sk Jakir (36) smashed 200 green coconuts in three minutes and 16 seconds with his elbow in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

Jakir claimed to have eclipsed an earlier record set by one Keshav Swain, who entered into the Limca Book of Records by breaking 76 green coconuts in one minute.

Jakir said, "It is only practice which helped me to break the green coconuts."

Law and Industries Minister B B Harichandan who was one among the witnesses said that he would urge the government to encourage such talent. "I am happy that an Oriya youth has made a record," the minister said.

"I came to know that someone is breaking green coconuts by using his hands. Therefore I thought I can also make record by doing so. Besides, I'll become popular," cheerful Jakir told reporters after completing the feat.

Keshav Swain, who had set earlier record welcomed Jakir.

The event was organized by Orissa State Judo Association here where child marathon runner Budhia Singh was trained.
