Well loved Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale has been a regular fixture of the British airwaves for a good forty years now and it would seem as though the so-called ‘Queen of Breaks’ is at last getting her place in the history books.
As reported by the dudes over at Mixmag, the one and only Nightingale was honoured yesterday by the Guinness World Records crew, crowning the DJ with the gong for “The Longest Career as a Radio Presenter (Female)”. Awwww, we’re all warm ‘n fuzzy!
Speaking at the awards ceremony, the still-raging 68 year old seemed wrapped with the honour and spoke about her first ever shift on the air.
“When I took the wrong record off and caused eight seconds of dead air on my very first Radio 1 show, I thought that was the beginning and end of me.”
