Moravia nudist park taking part in world-record skinny dipping attempt

Organizers at the Empire Haven Nudist Park plan to do their part in order to set a world record -- the largest simultaneous skinny dip in North America.

The World Record Skinny-Dip event, which is organized by the American Association for Nude Recreation, first took place last July when some 13,648 participants stripped down and went for a swim.

Guinness World Records instituted a record category for the world's largest skinny dip, and this year AANR organizers and enthusiasts hope to break the record they set last year.

"We are advertising all over North America and Canada, and we're hoping that the weather is warm and stays nice," Empire Haven Nudist Park manager Michele Keagle said. Keagle reports that last year, many participants opted to stay until later in the day to find out more about the park.

At last year's event, participants on much of the East Coast opted to swim even under menacing thunderclouds. Organizers hope that this year better weather will encourage an even larger turnout.

On Saturday, nude participants will frolic in the water simultaneously at locations across North America. Guinness World Records reports that last year 147 AANR nudist clubs and resorts took part in the skinny dip.

"A lot of people look at it as being part of history, and to be part of Guinness," said AANR's Carolyn Hawkins, who hopes that this year's participation will break 20,000.
