Most SA Flags Being Waved in a Stadium at the same time set Guinness Record

Springbok fans attending the Tri-Nations clash at FNB stadium on Saturday have been urged to bring South African flags to the game as part of a Guinness Book of Records world record attempt.

The Boks will face the All Blacks in the first ever match in the tournament to be played in Soweto.

The record attempt for the most flags being waved in a stadium at the same time is a Vodacom and Lead SA initiative, which is part of a campaign to continue the massive wave of patriotism that emerged during the soccer World Cup.

Around 90,000 spectators are expected to pack the venue.

Springbok vice-captain Victor Matfield told Eyewitness News the team expected a memorable atmosphere at the stadium, and that they hoped it would spur the Boks on to their first victory in this year’s tournament.

The world record attempt is set to happen at half time when supporters will be asked to wave their flags in unison.

Around 1,000 tickets were released through Computicket on Thursday afternoon.
