On 26 January 2010, Guinness World Records™ was present in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to award the Guinness World Records certificate for the Fastest remote controlled jet powered model aircraft (RC).
During the presentation of the 2nd International Cup for RC Jets, to happen in Santo Domingo from 29 to 31 January, Guinness World Records judge, Carlos Martinez, awarded the new world record to Axel Haché (Dominican Republic) and David Shulman (USA), the pilots who were able to fly their radio controlled jet to maximum speeds of 542.64 Km/h (293 Knots or 337.18 mph).
The record effort had lately taken place on 18 January at the Hobbyland Airfield, also in Santo Domingo. There downwind and upwind speeds were taken to abolish the control of the wind amongst other factors.
A great interest in the RC Jets population was created after this record was announced, and it is predictable that some of the best pilots in the modality will be trying to recover this mark, maybe in the frame of the next International Cup for RC Jets in Santo Domingo.
