Hinesville, GA This week townsfolk and students in Hinesville, Georgia unveiled the world's largest crayon at the city’s Lyman Hall Elementary School. Student spent the past six months collecting more than 100,000 crayons and in the end hundreds of these little tykes were rather amazed just how big their little experiment turned out. students like 5th grader Tanner Middleton.
The massive wax creation stands 9'8" inches tall and weighs 605.5 pounds.
Organizer Leah Poole came up with this project and knew she could best the previous record. Ms Poole reached out to the community and received donations from the area’s Solid Waste Department, nearby businesses and school kids.
She eventually melted down the crayons and poured them into a PVC pipe.
To make the crowing glory Poole’s super large crayon tip turns out to be a traffic cone.
Polle says creating this crayon wasn't just about achieving a world record. It was also about saving the earth.
Guinness Book of World Records judge Danny Girton traveled to coastal Georgia to confirm the new record.
And that's what organizers are most proud of.
The crayon will be on display at schools and businesses all over Liberty County and it will be in the Hinesville Christmas parade in December.
By the way the previous record, a seven foot 322 pound monstrosity, was held by a Florida - based crayon company.
