A NEATH pub has attempted to break a Guinness World Record by taking part in a simultaneous wine tasting event, which took place all over the country.
The David Protheroe public house on Windsor Road joined the other 695 JD Wetherspoon pubs in the UK in an attempt to set the record, which took place at 6pm on Wednesday, May 21. Out of the people who tasted the wine nationwide, 59 participated at the David Protheroe and 39 took part in its Port Talbot sister pub, the Lord Caradoc.
As Wetherspoon’s first world record attempt, the wine tasting event was organised to run alongside the company’s wine festival, which is to last until June 8.
Rowena Phillips, of Cadoxton, who took part, said: “I think this is a good idea because it’s a bit of fun.”
The tasty wines on offer included Dry – Sauvignon Blanc 07 Vina Casablanca; Juicy – Chardonnay Grand Cru 06 – Sonoma Valley America; Fruity – Hawkes Bay Rose 07 Villa Maria New Zealand; Crisp – Cristal Cava Brut NV Castellblanch Spain; Spicy – McLaren Vale Grenache 06 Willunga 100 Australia; Soft – Valpolicella 07 Allegrini Italy.
June Gunter, of Ridgewood Gardens, who tasted the Chardonnay, said: “It was wonderful. I want to go out and buy a bottle now.”
Pub manger Sasha Hammet and assistant manager Gareth Davies said: “We would like to thank everybody who took part.”
